Each year on March 8th we celebrate International Women's Day throughout the world. Being that the world is in such constant turmoil, we spend way too much time and energy focused on our differences. We believe it is more important than ever to celebrate all that we have in common. Let's focus on feeling passionate about equal right for all human beings, male, female or other.
Let's think about some extraordinary events in the history of women's rights:
-1903: Marie Curie, first woman to receive a Nobel Prize for her work in Physics
-1920: Women in the US are given the right to vote
-1932: Amelia Earhart flies across the Atlantic Ocean
-1942: Women serve in the armed forces of WWII
-1955: Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on a bus in Alabama
-1973: American tennis champ Billie Jean King defeats Bobby Riggs
-1983: Sally Ride was the first woman in space
-1994: Congress passes the Violence Against Women Act
2007: Nancy Pelosi became the first female speaker of the House of Representatives
-2016: Hillary Clinton was the first female presidential candidate
So call yourself whatever you'd like for being a proud woman; Feminist, Liberationist, Women's Rights Activist, Reformer, Crusader....the list can go on and on! Most importantly, let's just be a good HUMAN!
Celebrate the women in your life on March 8th and every day. Tell them how important they are. Share your love, your empowering words and your kindness! Flatter a woman in your life that may be feeling down. Call an old friend just to say hello. Spread joy and compliments to all the women in your life. Dance with joy just for being a woman. Dance with joy just for being the glorious YOU!
Happy International Women's Day! May you feel blessed to be a woman, to know a woman or just to love one....always!
All Our Love, Rachel and Lori
